Stock No 1156
West Country Oak Box, circa 1580 – 1600, of good colour and surface quality. It has attractively carved lunettes with foliate decoration to the front and sides, with each semi circle separated by a foliate motif at its centre. Whether this motif is representing fir trees or ears of corn is difficult to be firm on. The decoration to the front is completed by leaf and bud spandrels to each side. The hasp is missing and the hinges have been replaced.
