Pair of Close Boarded Chairs

Stock No 1159

Pair of North Country English Oak Close Boarded Chairs, probably Cheshire, of a good mid-brown surface colour, circa 1680.  The uprights with Pyramid finials have a shallow carved and stained cut-out top rail.  The main back Panel is deeply carved with beautiful drooped flower heads, probably meant to be Fritillaries, either side of a chalice full of grapes, and above a pair of Margeurite Flower-heads, all of these design motifs are linked to give a lovely design result.  One of the chairs has had a strip inserted to the back of the seat and has a small piece spliced into one foot
