Stock No 2407
Oak carved panel, French, circa 1530. It is probably from the Normandy area, and has a definite rustic charm of a provincial workshop. At the top is a pair of Angel’s wings with a head set in between them. The lower decorative motifs lose symmetry and the skew indicates a right handed carver executed this piece. The two fish-like creatures have fish scaling and beaked faces and to the bottom is a Ram’s head flanked by flower heads. Even the flowers have been carved with both different numbers and sizes of petals!
