Napoleonic Straw Work Casket
Rare early nineteenth century Napoleonic Straw Work Casket. The top of the lid depicts a harbour scene, and has some losses commensurate with age. The front, sides and back have a simple herring bone design. The interior is an absolute gem with a mirror set in simple green string work framing. The main box is divided into three lidded sections with vibrant colours. The central section lifts out to reveal little drawers on either side, a chequered design on the base and green and red stringing around the edges. It has the wear and tear expected for such a fragile construction.
