English Oak panelled Chest, circa 1600 – 1620. A completely original high-quality Chest of attractive proportions and wonderful natural patination and colour. The two panelled top has simple mouldings and is fixed to the carcass by its original “butterfly hinges” which have been tinned on their inner half. The carved front has a nulled top rail with fluted stiles and central muntin within which the twin-panelled front has framed and ornamented lozenges. The sides are split panelled with the lozenge motif repeated within them. This Chest has been in the ownership for several generations of the same family from Skeynes Farm on the Surrey/Kent boarder.
