Pair of Carvings
Pair of small 16th Century French Oak Carved Portrait Panels depicting a man and a woman set in roundels, circa 1530. They are carved to a very high standard of quality, and it is reputed that they are intended to represent King Francois 1st and Queen Claude. The King was known as “Francois du Grand Nez”, and the figure in this carving has a strong aquiline nose which may have led to this assumption. The carvings are probably from the top frieze section of a cupboard.
