SN 1226 Primitive Armchair

£9,450

18th Century Primitive Comb-back Armchair possibly from the Welsh Borders/Shropshire.  It has outstanding colour and delightful proportions.  The back comb and arms are made from Ash with the sticks wedged through mortices and secured by wooden pegs to the rear.  This back is fixed into a massive Elm seat which is over 14 centimetres thick being formed from a cleft section from the trunk of a tree.  It has four huge legs which are wedged into mortices drilled through the seat.  It is reputedly from the “Feathers Hotel” in Ludlow.  With the shrinkage and movement of the timber over more than 200 years rather appropriately the way it stands gives off a somewhat tipsy image!

Dimensions:  Height 97 centimetres, Width 53 centimetres, Depth 44 centimetres, Height to seat 53 centimetres
