SN 1244 Welsh Chair
£6,950
Rare Welsh Armchair circa 1750 – 1800, with wonderful Sycamore slab seat 8 centimetres thick. It has the unusual feature of a solid central splat cut into the arm bow and morticed through the seat.
For examples constructed in similar fashion, see Richard Bebb “Welsh Furniture 1250 – 1950”, Volume 1 Figures 45 and 164, and Volume 2 Figure 694. This is a totally original chair of wonderful colour and surface quality. There is a small wedge to the front right leg presumably to stabilise it from shrinkage.
