SN 2300 Carved Boss

£1,000

English Oak carved Ceiling Boss, West Country, probably Somerset, circa 1480. The carvings were probably allegorical given the differing insets to the four Gilly Flowers. Possibly the concave and convex circles represent, God and the Divine, the triangular one the Trinity, and the four sided one the Earth. All four are joined by a strongly carved line.
