SN 2860 Figural Group

£5,750

Carved Flemish Oak figural Group, circa 1500 – 1520.  It depicts St Anne with the Virgin Mary and Jesus. The vigour of the sculpture is brought alive by the Christ Child reaching across to the book on St Anne’s lap.  The symbolism reflects the story of St Anne teaching Mary to read, and also more powerfully links Christ to the “Book”, which of course is a reference to the Bible.
