SN 2887 English Oak Roof Boss

£750

English Oak roof Boss circa 1470 – 1500, which is well carved with a trefoil arrangement of Oak leaves, probably from the East Anglian region see “Suffolk Medieval Church Roof Carvings” page 121, 3SLW and 3SLW.  The overall rectangular shape indicates it would have received a beam close up to a wall.  This trefoil style of decoration is a typical decorative device seen from the 14th century onwards, see page 37 from “English Medieval Furniture and Woodwork, V & A Catalogue 1988”, by Charles Tracey.
